Are You Stuck?

Are you stuck?

Are you stuck?  Do you have that feeling that you just can’t move forward? In work, in fitness, in health, in LIFE?  I’m sure most of us have been at this point at some time in our life.  I know I have!  In fact, I’ve been ‘there’ fairly recently!  No matter how much we have been blessed in life, there are moments when we have that nagging little voice of doubt in our heads telling us that we’re getting nowhere!  While I know that this is a life-long journey of moving forward, here are some things that have helped me:

  • Silence the nagging “voice” of doubt by prayer and positive affirmations.
  • Count your blessings!  Sometimes I get overwhelmed with how “bad” I think things are when really, it’s not bad at all!  I start focusing on my blessings and, wow!  What a difference!
  • Re-evaluate what you’re doing.  We are all created for a purpose.  What is your God-given purpose?  If you don’t know, start to seek Him in discovering what that may be.
  • Get outside!  After my fourth child’s birth, I experienced severe post-par tum depression.   One of those things you think couldn’t possibly ever happen to you.  I found forcing myself to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, regardless of how I felt, made a world of difference!
  • Change up your recreation – or add in some recreation if you’re skipping this vital aspect of life altogether.  I hit a stage in my life when I realized my life was really all work and no play.  Not a good way to live.  Take up something like running, cycling, tennis, or swimming.  Go rock climbing, learn how to surf, check out all the hiking areas around where you live, get creative!  Years ago if someone had told me this I would have laughed in their face (as you may be doing right now!).  But some friends encouraged our family to register for a Thanksgiving Day 5K about 5 years ago and that’s what changed it all!  Our family had never had so much fun – we all agreed it was our best Thanksgiving Day ever!  Since then we’ve added all sorts of activities to our family outings.  This weekend we’re doing another 5K as a family and (shocker!) I’ve even started a ‘bucket list’!
  • Exercise!  Just getting moving on a regular basis can change your whole perspective on life!  Find something you love to do, the workout that fits you best, but also go for variety.  I was completely stuck with my fitness progress a few months back and so ordered Les Mills Combat and haven’t looked back!  I totally found my soul mate workout and am in the best shape of my life, while having the time of my life.  I add in variety by running, swimming, and weight training as well.
  • Eat right.  Good food can soothe the soul as well.  Try new foods or a new way of food preparation.  Visit the bookstore and find a book on healthy eating and get the whole family involved in trying new things.  Don’t know where to start?  Grab my free meal plan and recipes or join us next month in our Ultimate Reset adventure!  The Ultimate Reset, by the way, is a great way to get out of a rut!  Not only does it cleanse/detox your body and teach you a whole new way of eating, but it can do much to clear your mind, improve your sleep patterns and digestive health, and give you a whole new perspective on life overall!  I was amazed at the changes in my life in just those 21 days (you can read more about my results from doing the Ultimate Reset last year HERE).
  • Recruit some friends!  Whatever it may be that you are feeling stuck in, there are others out there going through or who have gone through the same thing.  Sharing your struggles with a close friend who will encourage you as you move forward is a treasure in itself – and a blessing you can count!

So, chase away those voices of doubt in your head and get “un-stuck”!  Maybe you have some more great ways to help get out of a rut.  We’d love to hear them so please feel free to share in the comments!
