5 tips to spring clean your health

Spring is in the air – finally!  Many of us are stocking up on cleaning supplies as the “spring cleaning bug” has bitten.  Even though I live in a year-round-warm climate, this time of year always has me cleaning out cupboards and closets and planning a yard sale.  But it’s not just our homes that need that annual thorough clean-out; it’s our bodies as well!  After the Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas ham and goodies, New Year’s parties, Valentine’s Day chocolate, St. Patty’s Day celebrations, and then Easter, our bodies NEED a tune up!  Here’s some great ways to spring clean your health!

  1. Clean out your kitchen!  Ok, I know I’m stating the obvious here, and I’m not actually referring to scrubbing down the fridge and cupboards.  I mean clean out the junk!  Those Easter peanut butter eggs you stashed for later, maybe some Valentine’s chocolates hidden away for a rainy day, or goodness, maybe there’s even some leftover Halloween candy lurking if you look hard enough.  Get rid of it!  Toss it!  If it’s GONE, you won’t eat it!
  2. Replace the junk with healthy snacks.  So now you feel really good about tossing the bad stuff, but suddenly you hear that “rumbly in your tumbly”, as Winnie the Pooh would say.  You know how easy it would be to make a quick run to Krispy Kreme.  So avoid setting yourself up for failure by going ahead and stocking that freshly scrubbed pantry and fridge with healthy snacks. Fruit, raw nuts and seeds, veggies cut up with hummus, cacao nibs, Greek yogurt, protein powder and frozen fruit for quick smoothies, and any other favorite healthy snacks you may have.
  3. Find a partner to spring clean your health with!  Accountability is one of the biggest factors in determining your success or failure in making healthy lifestyle changes.  Finding a friend or family member to help keep you on track can make all the difference!
  4.
