Alkaline or Acidic? Simple Steps to Alkalize your Body

Simple Steps To Alkalize Your Body

With the increase in processed, chemical-laden foods, our bodies are having more and more difficulties in maintaining a good pH balance.  If you’re anything like I was not too long ago, my response would be, “So what!”  The more I study nutrition and wellness, though, the less I can ignore the terminology “alkalize your body”.

Why DO we need to alkalize our bodies?  Here’s some side effects of having excessive acid in our systems:

  • Weight gain – Basically the body stores acid in fat cells, which causes weight gain.
  • Lack of energy
  • Lowered immune system
  • Calcium loss in the bones

But HOW do you alkalize your body?  Through my Ultimate Reset journey, I’ve learned so much about the foods that are best for this and let me tell you, the difference in  how I feel is amazing!  Here’s some of the top alkalizing foods:

  • Cereal grasses – you know, the infamous “green drink” you’ve probably seen posted around Facebook.  Barley grass, wheat grass, alfalfa grass, and kamut grass to name a few.  These are probably some of the most powerful alkalizing superfoods as these live greens help to neutralize the acid in our system.
  • Kale and collard greens.  Basically, anything green and leafy is alkalizing but these are at the top of the list.
  • Green vegetables such as broccoli, asparagus, and green beans
  • Beets and Sweet potatoes
  • citrus fruits – I know, I thought the same thing – aren’t they acidic?  Actually, it doesn’t have to do with if the food itself is or tastes acidic but how it affects our systems’ pH.  Limes and lemons are particularly alkalizing.
  • Cinnamon, ginger, cumin, turmeric, garlic, and paprika.  Spice up your foods!
  • Himalayan Salt – this stuff is amazing!  Loaded with minerals, this natural salt is the best salt there is!
  • Sea vegetables – Nori and wakame are two we used often on the Ultimate Reset.

By making some simple changes in your daily regime, you can change the pH of your system to a more alkaline state without too much difficulty.  Replace processed foods with live foods, such as those listed above, add lemon or lime to your water, drink LOTS of water throughout the day (at least half your body weight in ounces), eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet, eat less meat and dairy as animal products are high in acidity, and replace margarine, vegetable oils and shortenings with extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and sesame oil.  These are just a few simple steps you can take, but with big results!  Since starting the Ultimate Reset and alkalizing my system, I’m seeing a big difference in weight – you know, those last few lbs that WON’T come off, no more bloating, LOTS more energy, clearer skin, and just an overall feeling of well-being.  How about you?  Give some of these steps a try and see how you feel!
