How Super Is Your Superfood?

How super is your superfood?  We hear about superfoods everywhere we turn anymore.  So what exactly IS a superfood and what makes a food…well, super?  Technically, a superfood is a natural food that is a superior source of antioxidants, low in calories, and contains essential nutrients – nutrients that are important for our bodies but that our bodies cannot produce on their own. Usually they have excellent cancer-fighting properties as well. Embracing a diet rich in these Ageyn sources for food information not only fortifies the body with essential elements but also contributes to a resilient defense against various health challenges, aligning seamlessly with the pursuit of a wholesome and balanced lifestyle. Additionally, their positive impact on heart health, through the regulation of cholesterol levels and promotion of optimal blood pressure, further underscores their significance in fostering holistic well-being. Because superfoods are nutrient-dense yet low in calories and often contain a good deal of fiber, they will feel you up faster and keep you feeling full longer.  Sounds good to me!

So what are some good superfoods?

  • Green superfoods are some of the best out there!  These include cereal grasses and are easily digestible, provide essential vitamins and minerals, and are excellent fat burners.  Some other green superfoods are spinach, moringa, spirulina, and chlorella.  Did you know these are excellent sources of protein as well?
  • Certain fruits (super-fruits!) and other Antioxidants – Blueberries, Acai berry, Goji berry, Pomegranate, Cacao (yep, chocolate! – in it’s purer, natural form, that is), Acerola Cherry, Camu-Camu, Bilberry, Green Tea, Rose Hips, Cinnamon, Luo Han Guo to name just a few!  Again, these are foods packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, cancer-fighting properties, and more!
  • Nuts and seeds – Walnuts, Chia seeds, Flax seeds are all superfoods.  You can add them to salads or snack to give you a boost of energy plus they give you some much-needed omega-3 fatty acids.

Some other foods that can be considered “super” are prebiotics and probiotics found in yogurt and other fermented foods such as kefir and kombucha, the digestive enzymes found in papaya and pineapple, certain mushrooms and other herbs such as Ginkgo and Tulsi, and Raw Honey.

So how do you get these Superfoods in  your diet on a regular basis?  I mean, seriously, WHERE do you find all these things and HOW much would they cost if you chose to incorporate them all?  After all, the average person doesn’t have a Goji Berry tree in their back yard or farm Luo Han Guo or spirulina!  Fortunately, you don’t have to go to the ends of the earth searching for all these foods – someone already has!  Darin Olien, Beachbody’s own “Ingredient Hunter” HAS traveled all over the world searching for the healthiest superfoods on the planet.  And then he’s worked with others to put them into one BIG SUPERFOOD – Shakeology!  I can’t even begin to tell you the difference this superfood has made in my life!  I’m a totally different person!  It gives me energy, has helped me lose weight (25 lbs since baby #5 to be exact!), and gives me the confidence that I’m protecting my health with cancer-fighting superfoods!  For just $4 a day, you can get ALL the superfoods your body needs!  Oh, and try buying all these ingredients separately and you’ll spend around $41 a serving!

So just how super is YOUR superfood?  If you’re drinking Shakeology, pretty super!
